Why, hello.
Hi. 🙋♀️ I'm Al (short for Allison). Welcome to probably the tenth blog I've created in my lifetime; however, this one I am determined to maintain...got a lot of people counting on me for this one. 🙂
First, let's get to know each other, shall we? I'm 33 years young and live in upstate New York. No, not New York City. My city is famous for the garbage plate - can you guess which one? I have been with my boyfriend for a decade and he is the best person I know.💗 I'm a NYS Licensed Optician and I absolutely love my job, especially fitting glasses on babies and toddlers. Nothing compares to watching a baby being able to see when they can't tell you how their new vision is. I love to watch movies, the NHL (go Sabres...that gives ya another clue!), chick flick drama shows, and cheesy Lifetime/Hallmark holiday films. I'm also a sucker for learning about cults and watching serial killer documentaries...can't help it. It all terrifies me, but I find so fascinating. I'm also a huge nerd - I love Star Wars, DC Comics, Marvel, Game of Thrones, you get it. Last (but certainly not least), I have loved to read ever since I was a kid.
But two of the things I love the most are baking and creating home decor and jewelry out of concrete. Yes, you read that right. I make things out of what your basement floor is probably made out of - but more on both of these hobbies in future posts! Now, if you ask my mom if I loved baking as a child, the answer would be no. She always tried to get me to make brownies with her and I could never be bothered, unless she needed someone to lick the spoon. However, as I've gotten older, I've really grown to love baking and the feeling of satisfaction when what I make comes out the way it's supposed to. The same goes for my concrete work. I can't tell you how many pieces on the past five years haven't come out as planned. Having them come out the way I want is the best feeling.
This blog is going to combine posts about my concrete process and an eventual link to the Etsy shop I've been in the process of setting up for at least three years, and recipes. This is a lot for me, especially sharing how I create with concrete because I have always been private about my methods. But I want to share to hopefully inspire you to get out there and create for yourself, whether it be in the kitchen or experimenting with a natural substance meant for your basement floor.
